i’m so annoyed. i don’t know what to do with my life!?

I’m in highschool, and I still don’t know what I want to do when I get older. I know, I still have lots of time, but I would like to have an idea of what it is I want to do. I want to work in an office, like at a magazine or something, and also in the movie Fever Pitch, Drew Barrymore…what she does, I think she’s a business consultant, but a business consultant for what? I absolutely know I want to work in my own office. I’ve gone through all of these ideas that don’t relate to that…

~surgeon
~nurse
~elem. teacher
~psychiatrist
~veterinarian
~Lawyer ( like the ones on the shows in the court rooms where they ask all the questions like Boston Legal, CSI, NCYS…)

thaat’s it…I know I want to work in a building in NYC. Just please help me…in a magazine office, what jobs are there? editor, editor-in-chief, those are the only ones I know. Also, what other "office jobs" are there…ones where I could have my own little office…like in the movie Fever Pitch…I know that i’m so stupid coming up with this idea relating it to a movie, but that’s the only example i could think of.

Any advice as to wehre I could take a FREE online career test, books I could read, anything??? and i know this is a lot…but what colleges are best to go to for working in magazines, and what should i major in?

I think that it would be so awesome to be an editor-in-chief for a magazine, and I too have recently considered that option. I’m only a sophomore in high school and I’m a bit annoyed too because I think any job probably has it’s hardnesses, disadvantages, stress. But, I realize that in the end, everything works out okay. Besides, most people don;t know for sure what they want to do while they’re still in high school. And if they do, they usually change their mind. So, chill out and enjoy your high school years and keep up the good grades. If you do well in school and have a good work ethic, things will work out eventually, Just get an education and see where life takes you. However, if you really want to get serious now and it’s that important to you, ask teachers, guidance counseler, parents, and other adult figures in your life who have knowledge about the career force and the real world. I think that along with the magazine idea, nursing and teaching would be cool as well as psychiatrist(if you’re into it and you have a niche). Veterinarian is an awesome profassion but there’s a lot of schooling, science, and probably stress-like being a doctor/surgeon. Lawyers may seem cool on tv but I’m sure it’s a rally boring in the real world when there’ less action. Besides, alot of people hate lawyers, no offense. Anyway, I wish you and me both the best of luck and I’m sure we’ll figure our lives out allright in time.

If you have a degree – or any alternative qualification – then you’ll already be in advace of of the masses when it comes to searching for jobs. My mate has a degree and he wasn’t sure what direction to go with it, but he uncovered some good instruction on the website in the resource box below which helped him to settle that he wanted to be a lab assistant. There is loads of assistance on the website regarding alternative jobs.

I wanted to be a scientist for the last 15 years of my life, I wanted to go into genetics and solve problems and untangle the mysteries of life written inside of each and every cell.

Then I did a project on "What I Wanted To Be" I learned that I would need to get at least a master’s and then a PH.D. and I would probably end up teaching or working for a pharmaceutical Company.

That wasn’t what I wanted to do. So I decided that I want to become a chartered accountant, because I like business, finances, math, and interacting with people.

I would recommend writing down a list of things that you want to be. Then do a little research on each job, how much education you need, the average salaries, wheter there will be a demand for these people or not in the future and what other things you could do related to that job. For instance, many charatered accountants move onto business administration or become a finacial consultant.

Do a job that you would consider doing and that you would enjoy doing. My whole life I have loved business but I love science even more, so it has always been what I wanted to do. Now that I realized that it isn’t what it’s cracked up to be, I had something else which I would still love to do but just wans’t my first choice.

I hope you figure this out.

    Cheers.

How smart are you? What are your best traits ?What class standing do you have? Your mind is helter skelter and there is no direction to your thoughts.Until you mature and are able to focus your thoughts you are wasting every ones time, yours included. So get with the program.
